About AJ Awed

AJ Awed is running to uplift the issues and vision of the people of Ward 6

AJ Awed is running as a Democratic Socalist on a platform that centers on the lives of workers, renters, immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, and our Black and Indigenous communities.

Ward 6 deserves a City Council Member that will stand with our neighborhoods – from Cedar-Riverside, Ventura Village, and Seward to Elliot Park, Phillips West, and Steven’s Square/Loring Heights – to uplift the issues and vision of the people.

This pandemic has exposed what many have known for too long, that our systems are failing us. With an open seat this is an opportunity to bring together working people of all backgrounds to demand housing for all, defend our local businesses, support families affected by the opioid crisis, and fight for environmental justice.

Our campaign will be fought by bringing working ‘Ward Sixers’ of all communities together to demand an end to massive inequality and rising gentrification.

Together with your support we can build a system that works FOR US.

What We Can Achieve Together

With working and immigrant families struggling to make ends meet and our natural environment under threat, we can’t wait for the change our communities need.

It's time for us to act.

Our campaign is fighting for a powerful set of policies that will reshape our local economy, eliminate inequality, provide community addiction resources, protect and expand public housing, advocate for universal rent control, implement transformative criminal justice reform, support small businesses, and expand employment opportunities.

We won’t stop there — with a ‘Green & Healthy Neighborhoods’ focus, we will reverse the impacts of greenhouse gas emissions on our community.

The time for half measures is over. We need solutions that are big enough to match the many crises our communities face.

Our campaign offices may not be open due to the covid-19 pandemic but we are still mobilizing to build a movement for working class and immigrant people.

Let’s seize this opportunity to build a better future for all of us.

Families Need Support to Fight Opioid Addiction.

AJ will do more to support them in fighting this existing major health issue.

Democracy is Powered by Volunteers like You!

AJ Awed has made his refusal of corporate political action committee (PAC) money a major part of his campaign.

"I’ve taken a pledge not to take one dime of corporate PAC donations - not from developers, not from corporate lobbyists, and not from financial firms - none of them!" AJ said in addressing campaign volunteers and the community on May 19th.  "And yes, I'm going to need your help to win!"

Successful campaigns usually require a campaign manager to coordinate the campaign’s operations. Apart from a candidate, the campaign manger is often a campaign’s most visible leader.
